This is something I get asked frequently, especially after someone has received a session, because they are processing emotions that they weren’t expecting to feel and often haven’t received a shamanic healing before.
As you can imagine, there is no straight forward answer to this for a number of reasons – namely because we are all different and we are all healing from completely different issues. Processing relationship issues is very different to healing from repeated abuse for example; dealing with grief is very different to problems around your career or life purpose.
A person’s capacity to process emotional stress varies greatly too. Those old souls that have lived many past lives may seemingly cope with emotional stress better than others, but we are all thrown life experiences that challenge and trigger us to deal with deeply personal things that put us well out of our comfort zone in the most profound ways.
Size Matters!
The size, location and depth of energy intrusions also play a part; some items may be small but very deeply imbedded in a person’s energy field, others may be larger, but much closer to the surface. People who are carrying a lot tend to feel the release more strongly, whilst with others, the healing is more subtle.
During A Session
Some people feel really light, energized and positive during their session, and some can actually feel energy leaving their body in the form of release. The heart and solar plexus chakras are common areas where people hold onto negativity; if a lot is removed in these areas, the release can be felt quite strongly.
The effects of a healing aren’t always felt immediately though, so don’t be disheartened if you don’t feel anything during the time of your session – it doesn’t mean it hasn’t worked or nothing is happening. Quite often, it isn’t until a person receives their information of healing and guidance that everything sinks in and they start to feel differently.
Afterward Your Healing
Once you receive the information from your session you will start to process what has been healed and the guidance you’ve received. It’s pretty common to feel quite emotional in the days after a session as this process takes place.
Over time, you should start to notice that you feel different towards the situation or problem you’ve been facing. You will be able to interact and respond better to the people or circumstances that are causing your issues, and if you’re dealing with anxiety or addictions, these should improve.
Some people also feel the effects in their physical body too, experiencing a release or feeling lighter in a particular area of their body. The same person can also have two different sessions and feel completely different after each one.
Moving Forwards
A shaman will always be guided as to what and how much to heal in you, but some people may struggle to process a healing, especially if it’s particularly deep and emotional. On these occasions a person may need another session to help integrate the healing work into physical reality, but usually an additional session is only needed if there are multiple issues to be healed.
It’s not uncommon for a person to get healing on one issue and then feel worse about another area of their life that they would normally process quite well. As you start to become more aligned and attuned with what’s happening in your body, you may become more sensitive to additional issues – your body knows what’s good for it!
Energetic issues often come off in layers too – it makes sense for trauma to be healed and processed gradually so that we can manage it appropriately. Once we have dealt with one problem, we can move onto the next.
